Adjuvant (additional) treatment after surgery. The aim is to combat any micrometastasis which may not be detectable through x-ray studies. These include chemotherapy (before or after surgery), radiotherapy, targeted biological therapy and endocrine therapy. Treatment is recommended based on the cancer staging and tumour biology which can be hormone-sensitive, HER2 positive or triple negative. Breast cancer is heterogeneous and is not the same for all patients even with the same staging. Patients should discuss with their doctor in charge on the appropriate treatment.
